ALLERGAN HORIZON GRANT PROGRAM

Allergan is proud to sponsor the Horizon Grant Program. This fellowship award program has been created and supported by Allergan, a global leader in eye care committed to the future of ophthalmology. The purpose of the Allergan Horizon Fellowship Grant Program is to advance the practice of ophthalmology by supporting academic medical institution fellowship programs. Allergan recognizes the important role fellows play in contributing to ophthalmology research and development.

The Allergan Horizon Grant Program provides multiple awards to academic medical institutions to support fellows seeking careers in academic medicine. These awards will fund fellowship programs that conduct clinical research in the diagnosis or pharmacological treatment of glaucoma and corneal and retinal diseases.

Allergan is contributing $1 million over two years toward the development and implementation of the Horizon Grant Program. The funds are set aside for approximately 20 fellowship awards over two years at approximately $40,000 annually.

Grant applications will be reviewed by the Allergan grant review committee with the assistance of an independent academic advisory board. Applications must be submitted by the department chair, division chief, or fellowship director of the academic institutions. Applicants will be required to provide information about their institution and fellowship program, how the funds will be used to advance research in the above specified disease areas, a brief summary of the research program, and the educational plan for their fellows’ research.

Applications must be received by Allergan Medical Affairs no later than September 28, 2007 Grant awards will be announced at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) in New Orleans in November 2007.
